Between my two week trip with Michell and a week-long trip to Belem for a conference, I had about four full days at home in Fortaleza. Relaxing, right? Wrong. Those days were so hectic, specifically due to a dance rehearsal Tuesday, a performance on Wednesday, more rehearsal on Thursday, and a four-hour presentation on Friday morning (before packing and hopping off to Belem).
This dance performance was so much fun, albeit a little hectic. Not only were we given the escalação (the line-up) at rehearsal the night before, but we arrived at the event only to find out that we would be performing on a concrete patio, instead of a stage, and that our “dressing room” was in a different building about 100 feet away.
We all kept our Brazilian tudo vai dar certo attitude in mind and got ready to dance. I was especially excited because I got to perform two new dances: Afoxé (and afro-Brazilian dance from Bahia. It was the second dance I learned with Oré) and Cunhã Poranga (a Boi Garantido dance from Amazonas that I just learned!). Despite the mild chaos, it was so much fun! I cannot wait for more performances!
Check out a video of me dancing Afoxé (the crazy, long brown hair should be a tip off) and some photos from that night!
